May Gerry Kawaala is an anointed gospel artiste, music composer, songwriter, worship leader, and Christian counselor whose love for singing was highly influenced by her mother and her grandmother Rosemary; through their hymns and late night bed time stories as a little child that immensely touched her while growing up back in Africa.

Her musical career is inspired by God. After getting saved at a young age of sixteen, as a new believer, May begun serving God right away. She went on to sing praise and worship at the then biggest lunch hour fellowship in Kampala city. In 1982, May joined World Outreach choir that used to minister through worship and praise to the nations. It is during the same time that she worked with the children’s ministry in the same church around Kasubi a Kampala suburb; inspiring little children through spiritual hymns, riddles and other games at their marital home as part of Sunday school.

Later, May joined Redeemed Church Makerere where she worked with Evangelist Drake Kanaabo and Pastor Robert Kasaija from1990 to 2000. Together, they travelled neighboring nations preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in East and Central Africa Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, to the far south Mwanza in Tanzania with the help of Elder Vincent Kiragga. Over the years; she has produced various musical albums and songs including Kanya kusubira & Balina omukisa in 2016, Onsasiire in 2014, Lindirira Mukama in 2004, and many other songs like, ‘How I love Jesus, Haliyo Ebyeera Ewa Yesu, Sembera akulokole, Praise God in His Temple, plus a whole lot more.

Her New album titled, ‘Tumutendereze Eyawangula Ensi’ is performed in her mother dialect Luganda; with a meaning loosely translated as, ‘Let’s praise Him who overcame the world’. This particular song is inspired by her plight as a teenager, her zeal for God as a new Christian convert then influenced her to search for a deeper meaning to life. She had been born-again at the age of sixteen, but her unhappiness drove her deeper into her faith. Though her heart was sold out to serving God and making a difference in her generation, quiet often the odds were stacked against her; yet May never relented. Many times she felt a sense of inadequacy, incompleteness, and insignificance due to her poor background however, due to her firm resolve to serve the Lord Jesus, May endured a life of obscurity. She strongly believed that her faith in God will one day yield fruit as Matthew 6:33 NKJV puts it. Together with her family they kept in prayer. It was during such a season that the Holy Spirit inspired words of a song in her heart which she later decided to put on pen and paper. ‘Tumutendereze Eyawangula Ensi’ came as a word of encouragement, the assurance that God’s son, Jesus, came to preach the Kingdom of God. As a member of the family of the Kingdom, what was truly worth seeking were only two things: the kingdom itself and the righteousness that comes from God.

Jesus said, “I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven…” (Matt. 16:19). He promised to give us the keys that will make it possible for us not only to survive, but also to thrive.

Jesus went on to say this: “…whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven”. In other words, when you take a key in your hand, you can open or close things both on earth and in heaven. Whatever you open on earth, Heaven will have to open for you, and whatever you lock up on earth, Heaven will lock up for you too. In her own words she confessed, “I knew then that l had the authority to affect decisions. I took that authority in the song and begun speaking some godly knowledge in the situation. ‘My savior has overcome the world, and surely I will overcome this crisis’”. This is the essence of ‘Tumutendereze Eyawangula ensi’.

May and her husband Pastor Benon Kawaala have been married for over thirty years. Together they have four grown children. May and Pr. Benon are based in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. They’re both part of a worldwide ministry called Healing Outreach. Through her music, she ministers, teaches and mentors other people.
